Ellen DeGeneres is a name that lights up our day. The lady has been entertaining her fans for years. Who would have thought that a lady so tough, upfront and inspiring would have gone through a terrible phase in her teenage. The 61-year-old TV personality was present as a guest on David Letterman’s show, where she opened up about an episode from her teenage when her step-father sexually assaulted her. She also has a message for all the ladies out there.

When the tables turned and Ellen was a guest, she did not rein herself in, but spoke her heart out. Talking about abuse, she called it a horrible story. “It’s  a really horrible, horrible story and the only reason I am actually going to go into detail about it is because I want other girls to not ever let someone do that. He told me when she was out of town that he’d felt a lump in her breast and needed to feel my breasts because he didn’t want to upset her, but he needed to feel mine. Again, because I didn’t know about bodies. I don’t know that breasts are all different,” Ellen said.

Going into the details, she added,“Anyway, he convinced me that he needs to feel my breasts and then he tries to do it again another time, and then another time, he tries to break my door down, and I kicked the window out and ran because I knew it was going to go more to something.” Ellen chose to not tell her mother anything about the incident as she thought her mom was happy with that man, even if he was horrible, and telling her the incident might ruin her happiness. She told her mom after a few years and her mother still chose to be with the man for more 18 years until the day they separated, by which time he had changed his story so many times.”

Talking about her experience and what all the ladies should do to stand up for themselves, she said, “ What most women do is we just don’t feel like we have a voice… we just don’t feel like we are worthy or we are scared to say no.  I think it’s important to talk about it because there are so many young girls, and it doesn’t matter how old you are. And when I see people speaking out, especially now, it angers me when victims aren’t believed, because we just don’t make stuff up. And I like men, but there are so many men that get away with so much. It is just time for us to have a voice. It’s time for us to have power.” You go girl!

More power to Ellen DeGeneres and her ilk.
