Ample rumours have been doing rounds about the prequel of Game Of Thrones and if reports are to be believed, HBO had planned multiple prequel spin-offs for GOT and one of them might even pan out at some point in the future.

Going by the reports online, the show’s prequel and will reportedly take place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. Not just that, the filming for the highly-anticipated spin-off has also recently started in Northern Ireland. When GOT author George R.R. Martin and showrunner Jane Goldman were asked about the same, the two did not spill any beans and said that the fans can expect a prequel.  They even went on to tell what the prequel will be about.

Talking to a news portal, Martin said, “The Starks will definitely be there. Obviously the White Walkers are here and that will be an aspect of it. There are things like direwolves and mammoths. The Lannisters aren’t there yet, but Casterly Rock is certainly there; it’s like the Rock of Gibraltar. It’s actually occupied by the Casterlys — for whom it’s still named after in the time of Game of Thrones.”

Martin also gave some intriguing hints about the state of Westeros during that time. “We talk about the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros; there were Seven Kingdoms at the time of Aegon’s Conquest, but if you go back further then there are nine kingdoms, and 12 kingdoms, and eventually you get back to where there are a hundred kingdoms — petty kingdoms — and that’s the era we’re talking about here,” said the author.

He further said that Westeros will be a very different place in the prequel. “There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series,” he added.

Names like Naomi Watts, Denise Gough, Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo have surfaced online to be a part of the series. However, HBO has not confirmed an official title for the series yet. Stay tuned to Cineblitz for more Hollywood news and updates.
