Until yesterday, reports were doing rounds that veteran actress Jaya Prada was planning to join BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Well, today that finally happened. In a ceremony, the actress was seen accepting the party’s ticket and it is being said that she will indeed be contesting in the upcoming elections. Jaya has been active in politics since 1994; she was initially associated with the Telugu Desam Party. In 2004 and 2009, the veteran actress was with Amar Singh’s Samajwadi Party. And then during the 2014 elections, Jaya joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal and contested from Bijnor.

Now that she has joined BJP, media reports claim that she may contest from Rampur parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh. If that happens then the 56-year-old would be competing against the senior leader of Samajwadi Party, Azam Khan. Apart from Jaya Prada, quite a few celebs are a part of Bharatiya Janata Party. While Hema Malini will be contesting for BJP from Mathura, Smriti Irani will be contesting from Amethi. Shatrughan Sinha, who contested from Patna Saheb in the last elections, did not get a ticket this time around. Apparently, the yesteryear superstar is so upset with BJP’s snub that he may leave the party and join Congress.

That’s not all! Even Isha Koppikar has joined BJP and the actress was quoted saying, “I am a part of the national party and I’m in a party, where the leader leads on issues of national security… I’m honoured to work under PM Modi’s leadership.” She also called it an important moment of her life. Coming back to Jaya Prada, in the past, she had claimed being harassed and threatened by Azam Khan. The veteran actress had also accused him of attempting an acid attack on her. So now that the two rivals will be contesting from the same constituency, it will be interesting to see who will end up winning in the upcoming elections.
