Rajkumar Hirani denies allegations of sexual misconduct made against him by a female technician

Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has returned from the US amidst allegations of sexual misconduct made against him by a female technician who was working on Sanju. While the exact nature of his misbehaviour has not been revealed, the severity can be gauged by the fact that his name as the co-producer was dropped from the credits of the upcoming Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. However, Hirani strongly denies these allegations. In an official statement to the media, he said, “I was completely shocked when these allegations were brought to my notice about two months back. I had suggested immediately that it is essential to take this matter to any committee or any legal body. The complainant has chosen to go to the media instead. I want to very strongly state that this is a false malicious and mischievous story being spread with the sole intention of destroying my reputation.”

Producer of the Sonam K Ahuja and Anil Kapoor starrer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has not replied to our messages or calls. His silence over the matter has set tongues wagging and tilted the balance in favour of the complainant as Chopra and Hirani have closely worked on many projects together. On the contrary Chopra dropping Hirani’s name unceremoniously from the posters of his upcoming film are a strong indication that there is no smoke without fire. The complainant is said to have faced sexual misconduct at the hands of Hirani while working on the film Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor. The complainant is yet to file a case with the Indian Film and Television Director’s Association (IFTDA). The president of the film industry body, Ashoke Pandit has assured that if the complaint is brought to them, they will look into the matter and take the required actions. “These matters are not treated lightly by us,” said Pandit.
