Avengers: Endgame crushes Kalank; becomes the highest box office opener of 2019

Last week, Kalank (April 19) took a fabulous opening (Rs 21.60 crore) and broke the opening day record of Akshay Kumar’s Kesari (Rs 21.06 crore). However, just a week later, Avengers: Endgame (Rs 53.10 crore) has come in and shattered Kalank‘s feat! Yes, after raking in more than double of what the period drama earned, Avengers: Endgame is now the highest opener of 2019. In fact, it has taken such a huge opening that we don’t think it will be displaced from the top spot this year.

Talking about the record, we always knew Avengers: Endgame would have a record breaking run at the Indian box office. Marvel’s Avengers franchise has been one of the most popular superhero series of all time. With this being the last movie in the franchise, everyone wanted to see how the Marvel universe meets its fate. The last film, Avengers: Infinity War, was also left on a cliff-hanger. All this created unprecedented buzz and enabled it to rake in such a massive amount, even after screening in just 2800 plus screens in the Indian market.
