Thackeray is a film based on the life of Shiv Sena Supremo Balasaheb Thackeray, and it supposedly gives us glimpses of his entire life. The makers of the film shared a video on the festive day of Makar Sankranti, showing us the significance of the day in everyone’s life. The video is part of the film and has a song which has a Marathi essence to it. The video has the song ‘Aaya re Thackeray’ in the background with the dhol playing along.

The special video released on this day includes the kite flying festival, and how everyone in Mumbai city is excited about buying kites to celebrate it. But in the video, they are seen selling kites in saffron colour, which is the colour associated with their political party, the Shiv Sena. We see kids running around holding orange coloured kites which have Thackeray written on them. There is enthusiasm in everyone’s eyes when they are flying the kites with the name Thackeray on it. The video starts with these lines, Iss Makar Sankranti, aasmaan par chaayega Thackeray. And that’s the purpose of the video and the film — that people watch the film releasing this month, and let the name of Thackeray fly high in the sky.

The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amrita Rao playing Balasaheb Thackeray and Meena Tai Thackeray respectively. It was challenging for Nawazuddin to get the Marathi lingo for the film. The trailer looks promising and the audiences have a lot of expectations from the film, as it is close to the heart of Maharashtra. The movie is slated to release on January 25 in Hindi and Marathi.
